Tanya Smith
Tanya Smith is currently working as Communications Assistant at the Creative Industries Development Service (CIDS) in Manchester.

Graduating in 2000 with a BA Honours Degree in Media, Communication and Cultural Studies, she, like many others before her, soon realised that this qualified her for absolutely nothing!
Tanya succumbed to a life of suits and 9 – 5 office jobs. As she wore a telephone headset and developed a highly professional telephone voice, she dreamt of one day spending all day sat at her PC, surfing the internet, occasionally interviewing a leading light in the arts world, writing the odd gig review or maybe even designing a web site!
During these dark years, she kept her creative juices flowing by doing voluntary work. This included PR for a number of organisations, community radio and working on a number of short films with the Northern School of Film. In her spare time she wrote poetry and prose. She would like to write a novel or an academic book in the future.
Originally from Nottinghamshire, Tanya moved to Manchester four years ago and has never looked back. She was lucky enough to spend a short time at the BBC Manchester newsroom in 2004. This introduced her to the world of online journalism. Realising that with this she could combine her love for the internet and her passion for writing, she began an MA in Online Journalism at the University of Central Lancashire.
As well as organising the Girls on Film events with the group, she does all the Marketing and PR work for the events. She also helped out on the Girls on Film production International Incident. More recently, this has involved designing, writing, developing and occasionally shouting at this very website!
She enjoys being a web geek. She has worked voluntarily on the BBC Manchester ‘Where I Live’ site and writing for a reality TV site which involved her spending much of summer 2006 writing about Big Brother.
She loves the arts and music scene in Manchester and is proud to be part of it.
