Kate Jessop

Kate Jessop is a hybrid filmmaker exploring montage through use of animation and live action, and is currently artist in residence at MMU. Her films are concerned with otherness, documenting the human experience with a hint of psychedelia. She has worked with writers as part of Comma Film since 2006, undertaking commissions for the Manchester Literature festival as well as previously making video art and music videos.

She has had work shown internationally in over 30 cities worldwide including Toronto, New York and Paris. In 2007 she was included in the Best of Birds Eye View touring programme. In 2008 she won the Femme Fantastique award at the London Short Film Festival and was including in the WIFT International touring programme showcasing the best of international female filmmaking talent. Her work has been described as ‘magical’ and ‘showing true heart’, WIFT International describing her as ‘an old soul fresh with youthful innovation’.

She works as programmer and designer with Girls on Film.
