Alissa Juvan

Alissa JuvanAlissa Juvan is an actor, vocalist and writer, but she also dabbles in many other creative pursuits and is always looking for something new to organise! She is originally from Vermont in the US but has made the UK her home over the last four and a half years.

Alissa currently works for the arts organisation, Fabric, in Bradford, as their Network Development Coordinator, working with and developing artform-specific networks and putting on a variety of events. She also programmes a fortnightly selection of content for the Bradford Big Screen and has recently begun working on the Fabric radio show, Fabriculture, the first programme of which she hosted.

She has worked as the Studio Manager for Carter Thor Studios East, the East Coast film acting studio branch of Carter Thor Studio in Los Angeles, for two years. She also was a student of the studio for two and a half years, studying with Jock MacDonald and Cameron Thor, who
has coached many of Hollywood’s elite.

She has an extensive background on the stage, stretching back to the tender age of seven years, and got her first taste for the silver screen as a child extra in the feature film, Wizard of Loneliness, which can still be seen on British television. She acted in several independent films in the US as well as working behind the scenes as a script supervisor. Her first short film, Over Easy, was completed in 2000 which she wrote, directed and co-edited.

In answering an ad for a vocalist to record in Manchester, England, Alissa recorded and co-wrote several songs for Manchester band Avaron’s eponymous album in 2002. She also met her husband in the process and moved to Manchester at the beginning of 2004.

Soon after moving to Manchester, she penned a short screenplay for ExcelsiorKings Productions and starred in several short films. Alissa and her husband have also collaborated on two shorts Sticky Fingers and more recently, International Incident

Not content to sit around and wait for opportunities, she founded the Girls on Film group in March 2005 as initially a filmmaking collective but met with many women in various creative fields, and thus, the idea of the Girls on Film events was born. Since July 2005, she has organised and coordinated the Girls on Film events with events taking place every few months in Manchester. Although started out on a small scale, the event quickly began to attract women artists of all kinds from around the world and is growing bigger with every event.

As she is not currently based in Manchester, she has unfortunately had to take a step back from all of her work with Girls on Film but is still involved. She continues to work on her first novel and is refocusing on her acting work.
